SLJ: Night Owls

  1. Kia Ora Amanda,

Well done for completing another Summer Learning Journey activity, 'Night Owls', and for telling us whether you and members of your whānau are 'night owls' or 'early risers'. I really respect how you've chosen to present your findings by using a table— I find your "power of being a mother" comment hilarious because it is so painfully true, I feel as though my Mum never sleeps. I've read Roseena's response to this activity and she states that she often has to wake the rest of her siblings up. Does she often wake you? We just had a student in Kaikohekohe (Northland) finish the programme, posting his final post at 3:44 A.M! How crazy is that?! I woke up at 5:00 A.M, so while I was waking, this young boy had probably only just gone to bed. Do you think that you will remain a night owl through to your adulthood?

I look forward to your response :)

    Cheers,

    Jordan

    1. Hello Jordan :)

It's amazing how Mothers can work for the entire day/night! Even though my Dad is both, I've only put that in because he goes work basically all the time! It could be because there are only a little bit of employees at work and my Dad would able to help the employees working.

Roseena does often wake us up but it's only for a reason... It's going to be kinda funny though! She HATES being late to school and even though we have lots of time, she'd rush us because she wants to be there when her friends are at school so they can go breakfast club together.

I find it ridiculous honestly because in the morning I don't want to do anything but stay in my warm bed but who doesn't?! I don't attempt to argue with her being so bossy (even though I'm the oldest)

I do think I'll stay as a night owl because I'm pretty much used to it now! My cousins would come over and we would stay up all night and now I do it often! I have been trying to change but I can't!
Do you consider yourself a night owl or early riser? If you're an early riser please help me to sleep earlier!

    2. Kia Ora Amanda!

Mothers are incredible— I think that my Mum is the strongest person I've ever met. She raised us 4 kids all on her own! I can empathise with Roseena, I really don't like being late— but that doesn't stop it from happening to me. You're lucky to have her though, to make sure that you're always on time!
I understand what you mean about staying in bed, sometimes it's just too hard to leave the warm safety of your bed. I literally have to jump out of bed otherwise I fall privy to falling asleep very quickly.

I'm a bit of both, I go to bed late (usually around 10:30 - 11:00 P.M.) and wake at 5:00 - 6:00 A.M. so that I can do my uni work before I start work. I'm very tired at the moment, haha!
You'll have to get used to mixing up your sleeping patterns once you become a doctor/surgeon— so maybe being a 'night owl' will be very helpful for this.
I suggest running your body to exhaustion— this usually guarantees me an early nights sleep because my body is so tired that my brain just stops functioning.

I've rewarded you with a further 2 bonus points for responding with such a lengthy and thoughtful comment. WELL DONE!!

      Cheers,

      Jordan
